Sahana Vavatu is a prayer chanted before each class and before each private learning session. It asks for protection and blessings as the teacher and student embark together on a learning journey. What is this journey? It is to know OM/God/Presence.
Ideally it is chanted together by both student and teacher as both are united in their search for Truth, for Presence. It reminds ourselves that this is our goal: our own enlightenment but also that of others.
We learn it word by word later but the general meaning is this: May we both be protected and enjoy this process! May we both work hard and may we both shine! May we not fight! May there be only peace, peace, peace.

This mantra is sung on three tones: a fundamental, a tone below, and a semi-tone above the fundamental. A line over a vowel indicates that the vowel is held twice as long.
